Välimäki Won EXTEC CzechOne Open at Karlovy Vary
There an interesting highlight occured before final flight reached the 18th hole: David Heinzinger (D) scored a new course record at Karlovy Vary GC! His 63 erased Tim Gornik's 64 from 2013.
And, of course, Sami Välimäki of Finland is overall winner scoring 67, 66 and 67 which was enough to beat Czech Ondrej Lieser.
Finnish hero Välimäki started within the last flight, it meant, he was perfectly informed about competitors. After finish he commented: "The key factor was only one bogey today. I made no mistake at back nine. I knew the livescoring, I knew Lieser is 2 behind me after my 14th hole. Then I played birdie at 15 and the rest was guarding 3 strokes of distance"
The best Czech was Ondrej Lieser. He tried to attack Välimäki scoring -5 but it was not enough. Ondrej finished 2nd which means, he is still "on a striking distance" for TOP5 (Challenge Tour Card!) but he must win the last tournament - Finals at Germany. Ondrej said: "First day and today my play was good. Today I created scoring chances, but only milimetres missed to score at 14 and 15, I left my putt at 16 short and everything was solved then. Honestly, If anyone told me I will play -5 today this morning, I would take it at once! At Finals I will make my best to get it!"
The best show presented German David Heinziner. He was -4 after 8 holes, -16 after 13... even more, he did not make 3m putts at 17 and 18th holes... Nevertheless, all this pushed him from 17th to 3rd place in final leaderboard. There was -8 in his scorecard (=63), because jury decided to change the last hole, 18th, from par 5 to par 4 (total 71). Heinzinger said: "I played well the whole week, but I did not make putts by now. I started to make them today which made me happy. I was precise from tees, I could rely on my irons. The only trouble moment came at 11 where I played too left but I found my ball in semi-rough and got birdie. Totally I missed only 2 greens today, I am quite satisfied" added player whose score-card will be displayed at Karlovy Vary's clubhouse.
-4 played Marek Siakala (T15) and also Jakub Pokorný (-3, T12) could be satisfied. Other Czech players did not played that well, specially Cafourek (+3, 19) expected more. Totally 8 Czech players made the cut (40+T).
Order of Merit 2019's leader Hurley Long was 7th which confirmed his leading position.
For unlucky players that did not make cut CzechOne (promoter) held "Missed Cut Tournament" at Sokolov GC on Sunday. The winner was Alain Jeanrenaud (F) scoring 67.
